[The thing about miscommunications that made them so dangerous was the fact that they were so rarely caught by those doing the communicating. Wires crossed, meanings twisted, entire truths skewed simply because neither party knew to catch the wrong turn. There was no fault, no one to blame.
But there they were. Jason thinking that Edward was disgusted by his past and Edward thinking Jason had rebuked his attempt to push past the limits of their 'contract'. Later, at some far away date when they happened to look back, it would be understandable, maybe even a little humorous. The way they'd stumbled into a shared history only to have their traumas clash off of one another, throwing off the first sparks that would, hopefully, ignite the blaze.
They just had to survive finding their footing once more.
Following Edward's example, Jason took another bite of his burger. He chewed slowly, mostly to hide the small ping of hurt that came from that disinterested answer, but also because if he was chewing he couldn't embarrass himself further. The fact that a party was going to be had for Greene was a life raft that he clung to desperately, and he smiled a little as he shook his head.]
I can't tolerate bigots or assholes, so a bigoted asshole is a slap against my sensibilities. Keep your money, I'll knock him into his cake for free. [His expression softened a little, uncertainty in his eyes as he glanced back down at his plate.]
